Just like your player character, pets have different statistics in their menus that influence how they perform in combat. When a pet is out grazing you can pet them to see whether they are exhibiting any personality traits. Overall grazing makes it very difficult to keep track of and plan your pet’s growth, so pasturing your pets may not be advisable. Any experience crystal worth 8 or less rounds down to zero, so early in the game only boss monsters will provide benefit to grazing monsters. Those pets will gain 1/8 of the experience you collect (rounded down) while out adventuring. You can also graze up to three pets at a time in the field outside your Monster Corral. Pets only eat once they level up, and leveling up a pet with an empty feedbox means missing out on potential stat and defense growth! Make sure to take your pet home each time it levels up so you can refill its feedbox. You can craft a better version of the ring if you desire, but that is another guide entirely.
